Henrik Aa. Uldalen (b. 1986) Born in South Korea but adopted and raised in Asker, Norway, Henrik showed a great
interest in the arts from an early age. It was not before he discovered oil painting at an age of 19 that he realized his path
in life. With no formal art education, he started panting every day, on the side of working as a teacher in an elementary
school. Soon he was able to cut down on the teaching, and realize himself as a painter.
Henrik explores the dark sides of life, nihilism, existentialism, longing and loneliness, juxtaposed with fragile beauty. The
atmosphere in his subject matter is often presented in a dream or limbo-like state, with elements of surrealism. His focus
on atmospheres rather than narratives and realism leaves his painting open for many interpretations.
