Giving Thanks
By: Nina Mistier
Thanksgiving is the one day every year people take the time to think about all the things they are grateful for. They may recognize how lucky
they are to have family who love them, the blessing of children, the love of their live’s, a home, food and a job to pay the bills. Some people
are grateful for following their life’s passion and creativity and knowing their purpose. Some folks are grateful for their little animal friends
who love them unconditionally day in and day out and others think of their good fortune to be healthy, having use of their limbs and eyes and
feeling no pain.
Giving thanks is an important part of receiving the wonderful gifts life gives us. There are times when we get some curve balls and
unpleasant things happen, but we must realize that these things will pass and focusing on the feeling of gratitude for what we do have will help
to get through more quickly. It is too easy to get caught in negative emotions and complaining, but if you make a conscious shift to the
positive side you can get yourself out of the negative and on to the positive more quickly. We don’t have time to waste feeling sorry for
ourselves. You cannot get that time back and every moment is precious. Right now is the only moment you have control over; use it wisely.
As the beginning of the holiday season rolls around remain in a conscious state of giving thanks. Every day from today through
New Year’s day take a moment to reflect on all the things you are grateful for. This is what the meaning of the holidays is really about;
the appreciation and love that surrounds you. You will find much more meaning in your holiday experience if you do this, rather than just
getting caught up in the stress of food preparation and gift buying. Give your family some love and kind words of appreciation that they are in
your life; it will mean a great deal to them and will last a lot longer than a sweater.
