I use personal clinical material from digital angiographies of my brain as a
primary source, in order to create collage of landscapes, literally pulling out
what lies inside me, as an effort to see from a different point of view my
My work develops digitally, like my primary material and at the end is realized
through lambda printing mounted on aluminium with dimensions that cover
every picture’s needs.
The particular work is inspired by Rembrandt’s painting
“The anatomy lesson of Dr. Deyman” (1656).
The examination of the brain is isolated and appropriated
as I perform my own anatomy using elements from my
Through an aesthetic of powerful colorations, I abolishe
the boundaries between the inside and the outside, turning
the invisible into visible.
At the same time, my images are projected on a space
discharged of the personal narration burden, in a new
landscape of a non-specified place, virtual and truly fake,
The butterfly in the middle of the composition symbolizes
a procedure of transformation and psychosomatic change.
It is the result of my self-observation that surpasses my
personal boundaries and is addressed to each one of us.
HIV, video, 1’ (loop), 2005
3d modeling & animation by visual_bytes
«HIV» is a video that speaks about the homonym virus,
responsible for AIDS, the «plague of the century». The
world of microorganisms and the biology of the human
body lies somewhere between the material and the
immaterial, the scientific and the artistic, the visible and the
invisible. Despite of all the pain and the suffer, the sickness
and the death that brings, HIV is still, a live organism with
his unique miraculous structure and characteristics.
My goal through this video is to «turn the tables» and to
challenge the common emotion of fear and denial. I
present the 3-dimensional structure and geometry of the
virus, that appear and approach us, in order to go away
and to disappear in an eternal movement (loop), as an
autonomous pictorial presence discharged from its
emotional and social burden.
It is exactly this distance and the neutrality of the image
that reveal to us finally the beauty and the mystery of the
forms beyond our common beliefs.
