| Guilty Pleasure Rich has the right idea. Take a hot young woman with a smile, subtle cleavage, stand her in the entrance, and… they will come. Who? Rich Todd the new manager of Manhattan’s 12-year-old bar and restaurant. What? The Triple Crown Ale House & Restaurant Where? Just steps away from Madison Square Garden From the hostess to the bartender, everyone’s all smiles; so much so, you wonder if you’re still in Manhattan. The scene: T.G.I. Friday’s meets down home Irish pub. The food: BIG and good. The kind you grew up on but feel guilty about eating in these health conscious times. I wanted to stay for The Triple Crown Burger (fresh bacon, cheese, sautéed onions & mushrooms); instead I quit after a few rounds and the appetizer combo platter. As I write this it’s but 10AM and my mouth is already watering for the potato skins. It’s like a chain gone right; only it’ s not a chain. It’s a one and only. The spot is loaded with 11 TV’s – perfect for game night. The menu consists of American, Irish, and some pasta. And from what I hear, their rib platter gives Huston’s some competition. The food is reasonably priced especially the drinks. The booths are large and perfect for private convo. So, let’s re-cap: warm smiles, hot hearty food (or boring salad if you must), and TV’s. If you’re visiting or stuck in the city get away for the food and stay all night for the bar. Kitchen closes at midnight. www.thetriplecrownalehouse.com |
