Chor Boogie: 1. Why do you do this thing called Art?

Brooke Waterhouse: Project One gallery is part of the emerging international art scene in San Francisco.  we do - do this thing called art
because ultimately it is our passion and we enjoy it. At the same time we see art as a mode of communication, by creating a dialogue within this
community we hope to suspend thought and artistic visions. by curating prolific art shows, exhibiting established, as well as new emerging
artists, defines us as a gallery.

Chor Boogie 2. Where are based out of?

Brooke Waterhouse: Design district of San Francisco, Ca

Chor Boogie: 3. What music inspires you?

Brooke WaterHouse: Project One's lounge is inspired by the local DJs of San Francisco & the movement of underground music.

Chor Boogie: 4. What do you Feel you bring to the Table of the Art World?

Brooke Waterhouse: Project One provides space & a culture.
The short time that Project One Gallery has been opened, we've successfully become part of the groundbreaking San Francisco art community,
exhibiting local, National and International Artists.  Changing our art shows once a month provides a constant fresh look, as well as a welcoming
platform for new artists to springboard from and be highlighted.  We create a space beyond the four white walls of the sometimes rigid gallery
scene.  You can have fun and get loose while looking at art.  project one is establishing a new urban backdrop for contemporary artists.

Chor Boogie: 5. Do you consider yourself a humble artist ..or a self centered artist ?  Tell the Truth..

Brooke Waterhouse: Humble as in we put all artists ahead of ourselves, keeping the focus on them as they exhibit in our gallery.
Self Centered because you can't get to the level of success you desire without believing in your vision.

1. I have to, there's really no other way to put it.

2. Oakland, CA!

3. in direct relation to my art? none actually. I listen to audiobooks when I
paint and the occasional podcast. I find I can't have %100 of my attention
on my work, and audiobooks take just the right amount of my attention
away.

4.i've never thought of it like that, what I can bring to the Art World. actually
i've never had much consideration for the Art World, as outside of a very
small community, I know next to nothing about it. If I had to speculate
though, I would hope to bring well executed and honest work.

5.I'm not sure those are opposing traits. I think at heart, most artists are
probably pretty self-centered, myself included. I think it takes a certain
person to be able to spend so much time working on their own work, in their
own world, in search of self-expression. but I don't necessarily think that
means the self-centered are not humble. I think as an artist, I am incredibly
humble...there are examples of better painters than I am everywhere!

1.I don't "do" art. It does me. Visions come through meditations that want to be expressed in the world through little me. And If I

DOGADI
http://dogadi.smugmug.com/
1. Art is not an option like something you choose to “do”, when a person creates it is
because it was internally mandatory, it is like an itch in the mind that instinctively
compels one to move their hands or eyes or lips or fingers or all of the above to
refashion the sensed environment as it is processed by the mind and all its strange,
unique permutations. I believe this itch is the result of genetically predisposed neural
networks in my brain. That is why I do this thing called art.

HOW & NOSM
http://www.howandnosm.com/
1. The main reason we do art at this point of our lives remains the same as when we started out doing graffiti
back in 1988, the passion for it and the constant urge to evolve our body of work by producing a lot of murals
and more recently paintings.
2 Brooklyn, New York
3.Electronic music, we listen to music while we are in the studio and get lost into our world of black, white and
red artwork...
4. Over the years we brought quite a lot of different approaches of how to create graffiti lettering to the table
like for example intricate 3d letters back in the 90's . Today we give the art world a unique and innovative
signature style that we can call our own.
5. We consider ourselves humble  and get along well with most people right away.

1.If I didn't I wouldn't know what else to do.

2. My studio is in Brooklyn NY in Bushwick, a hip artistic neighborhood.  I run a building of studios called the Curbs
and Stoops Active Space.  Along with providing the community with clean, professional environment, we often hold
events and curate shows in collaboration with our tenants.

3.My latest project involves social experiments and interventions on the Internet.  While acclimating myself to the
Internet culture which is highly influenced by Japanese culture, i started listening to Japanese vocaloid artists such
as Hatsumi Miku.  The music is great but the concept is what intrigued me.  Miku is not an actual person but an open
source program in which all the songs are user created, taking the idol out of pop music.

4.I think a lot of things we use everyday are not being utilized enough by artists.  Great leaps in convience and
technology are being made and im hoping to use things such as Youtube and Google Maps to change how people
view and interact with art.

5.Im slowly trying to un- humble myself.  No one likes a humble artist

4.I bring to the table of the art world.....a hungry motivation to create original works

5. I consider myself as a humble artist, I create art but i did not create the world i do

JET MARTINEZ

http://www.jetromartinez.com/index.htm

1. When I started it was because it came naturally to me and never questioned it.  Now, it is the thing that I am best at.  It's the thing that serves as
the reason for all kinds interests in my life.  Making and art are the centers of my understanding of what it is to be human.  It's the thing that I can
contribute to my community.  It's as much my identity as my face and hands.

But, I also feel that a person should try to make good in this world... so I do try to use my art for good, and try to keep it positive.

2. I'm a recent transplant to Oakland, but still practically based in San Francisco.

3. I'm sure I'm not unique in this, but I listen to all kinds of music.   Recently, feeling Nigerian funk from the 70's.  Cumbias, the wide world of
Brazilian music, aphex twin, caspa, Van Halen, Stooges, .... kinda depends what I need that day.  Got goosebumps when I listened to some iBenji
the other day.  Nasty.

4.  I may be one of those artists that keeps a link between the Art World and the real world.  My passion is for bringing high quality, original, and
thought provoking work to the people... whether in my community or as a representative of my community. I feel that art should be ubiquitous in
people's daily life.  It should be something that we value and promote.  It's a shame that many people feel like they can't understand art, or that
they need to know a lot to know what they like in art.... I think that kind of mentality has allowed a whole lot of horse s#$t to be sold as gold. For
me, trying out my new ideas on the street helps keep me tethered to this world... keeps my head small.  I get honest critiques.  And in return, I
think I do my part  in beautifying this world and enriching the cultural heritage of the communities I work in.

I haven't talked about my work specifically, because it keeps changing.   (Right now I am working on a studio series and a mural series celebrating
some of my native Mexico's folk art traditions.)  What stays the same is my reason for creating and an understanding of my sense of  responsibility
as an artist to bring light.

I'm a spokesman for Nature, positivity, humility and a life well lived.

5.  Professionally, I consider myself humble.  But there are times when I look at what I do for a living, and I feel completely self centered
considering how hard it is for a lot of people to just survive.

5. I don't think there is any such thing as a non-self-centered artist. We're alone most of the time. But I do think it's possible
to be simultaneously self-centered and humble. Humility is one of my favorite personality traits. I come from a very humble
family, so it's something I feel is just a part of me. Its funny though, saying that I think I'm humble makes me feel like I'm not
being humble. Hmm. Weird.

1.I make art because it is super enjoyable, fulfilling, challenging and I can't not do it.  Honestly, most of the time I really only
make art for myself.  If it moves someone, makes someone happy or creates a dialogue, that is just an added bonus.
"Making art" is really just me escaping the day to day.  I go into the studio and just fade away from this place.  However,
sometimes I will make art regarding issues that arise, things that concern me regarding this world.  But, I never use it as a
way to preach or shove my opinions down someone's throat.  Instead, I use it to present something new (idea, place, visual
information) to the viewer.

5.At this moment, I consider myself humble. The truth is sometimes I don't consider myself an "artist" at all because it's a
burden. I'd rather consider myself an artisteer- someone trying to make their entire life a work of art (instead of attaching
my identity to manifesting a particular material artwork). Thanks for asking though.

JEFFREY PENA

1.I do art because it lets me think about the human condition. Generally, life is so fast
that you forget to examine, reflect, and interact. Making anything (not just art) gives me the opportunity
to slow down and respond. It is thrilling to make something new. Everytime I finish a project I learn
something new. This fresh perspective is the main reason I do art. Mostly, I hate being bored.

2.Currently I am traveling in between Brooklyn, where my studio is based at Curbs and Stoops and
Providence where I am finishing my Masters of Architecture at RISD.

3. I like a lot of different music. A lot of the roots of hip hop are seen in my work. My own art work is a
pastiche of diverse influences - this idea of sampling in order to create something new is how hip hop started.
It recognizes the history of music and combines it with urgency of making something new in the copy and
paste era. I like merengue and bachata, too. They bring me back to  my roots.

4.My biggest contribution to the art world so far has been to connect the "art world", which can be elitist
and inaccessible at times, to a vernacular that is starting to realize that economic and legal systems are
meant to sustain life and culture -  not the other way around. For a long time, we have been suppressing all  arts -
not many people go out to look at paintings, or live theatre and sadly, contemporary classical music is hardly ever
an option for most people.  I want to continue working towards democratizing the access to culture.

5. I think a lot about my viewer. And most of my work has some heroic qualities. So i'd like to think that
I am pretty humble. But at the end of the day, it's all about me. As you make work you have a ton of
decisions to make, and I'm the first person that needs to be satisfied.

LAURA WEYL

www.METAGASM.net

1.Making art is a discharge of human energy that captures the fleeting nature of my individual identity and releases it into the collective
conscious. Art is the way for me to immortalize memory and relieve myself of its burdens while allowing others to digest what I have
seen and experienced, like dropping breadcrumbs on my path. It is fleeting and ad-nauseum, and often destroyed or metabolized into
other forms, but its creation alone frees me of the weight of the moment. My alias META (a prefix used in words like metamorphosis or
metaphysical to indicate the abstraction or transcendence of a concept) describes the perspective my art comes from. I have always
felt detached and distant from the collective reality, and making art is my way of reaching in and making tangible the things I
experience. When others can relate to the things I put out, it solidifies my experience into a shared reality and integrates me into the
world.

2.I live in San Francisco, outer Mission District.

3.I love all genres of music, anything that is cinematic with eclectic sounds and/or colorful lyrics that evoke imagery in my head; Beck
has been my favorite musician since I was young.  Lately I dig the energy of old-school hip hop, and music from local hip hop hommies
in Frisco (I have cultivated a healthy collection since I have been making Hip Hop music videos). I listen mostly to cassette tapes and
records that are given to me in person. I like to listen to physical analog or low-fi formats that have physical history to them as opposed
to digital media.

4.As an individual I have very little separation from my artwork, I draw from my surroundings as subject matter and do a lot of
self-documentation. My work is completely honest, extremely personal, and never strays from my disposition as a young woman in my
place and time evolving with the digital age. I think the rawness of my work is rare and few people in my position have the will or the
balls to put themselves out there to the public like I do. I drop art for my own sanity and hope that it will resonate with someone in a real
place, that it will make them feel less alone, or ignite something in them they haven't sparked from their own experiences. I think I bring
a unique, candid perspective to a complex and highly affected world.

5.I am self-centered, my art is about and my life and perspective, it is completely a product of my own narrative. Despite this I do think I
am humble, I am not trying to prove anything by my artwork, and I don't expect people to like it or praise me, I simply put it out there to
to absolve myself of my experiences and maintain a personal equilibrium.
