Salvaged, Antique & Vintage Wood Much has been written by several companies about the use of the word antique wood and why antique wood is more desirable than vintage wood, which is less than 100 years old. Technically, the word antique is used only in connection with a product 100 years old or more. Old Growth antique salvaged wood means that the wood was cut 100-300 years ago and formerly used to build barns, gristmills or factories at that time. It has now been salvaged from these structures to be incorporated into new construction

Antique Heart Pine is noted for its unusual hardness and its beautiful color of amber and orange to mellow pinkish red. Antique heart pine flooring is nearly as hard as Red Oak. When its old original patina is maintained, it will have a more brown color.

Computer Associates European Headquarters
Ditton Park, United Kingdom
The site dates back to 1086 when there was an entry in the Domesday Book, a record of a survey of
English land and landholdings made by order of William the Conqueror. Over the centuries, the
property has passed down to various royal families. Computer Associates International European
Headquarters is a new structure within Ditton Park, once connected to Windsor Castle via
waterway. All 18th century gardens, courtly walls, gates and chapel remain on the site untouched.
The 250,000 square foot European headquarters is a three-story transparent building, composed of
laminated and regular glass. Within this significant historical site, it was important that the building
truly become one with its surroundings. Laminated glass contributed significantly to this effort as it was employed in several areas of the project, being the canopies
over the visitor entrance and the employee entrance, atrium skylight, stairwell skylights, cafeteria skylight and footbridges over the reflecting pool. With safety the
primary factor in selecting laminated glass, aesthetics and the ability to allow in natural light and maintain the transparent nature of the building closely follow in
importance. As the building lies within the heavily traveled flight path to Heathrow Airport, the laminated glass skylights shielded sound from above tremendously.
Energy savings were realized as the cost of lighting was significantly reduced, along with the direct effects of the sun. This is an elegantly dynamic, high technology
facility where projection of their image is very important to the community. The ability to project a strong, solid, yet visually open identity was critical to the approvals
and marketing success of this dynamic corporation.
The geometric plan form of the building reflects the internal function. The building is virtually symmetrical around the central entrance, reception and vertical
circulation core. Each wing accommodates team space, circulation and meeting rooms. The ground floor accommodates dining, data center, virtual enterprise and
additional common spaces. Vertical circulation will generally be via staircases, extending Computer Associateswork ethic of chance meeting and idea exchange.
While most buildings in the United Kingdom offer a 40-foot floor plate, this structure features a 100-foot deep floor plate with the most up to date automatic
environmental system specially employed for this increased core to window distance.
The building is intended to be light and airy an elegant structure enclosed entirely by glass with an interior courtyard, creating a transparency between the workspace
and the landscape. The outdoor balconies, stairs, and large building openings at either end reduces the physical impact of new presence within the historical
environment. These corner details illustrate external terraces and framed views of the landscape. The floor-to-floor glass curtainwall system is detailed and technically
up to date, with a computerized solar shade system for the entirety. The structural form of the building extends into the landscape by means of hedges and manicured
lawn, with roads and paths merging with the plantings.
