Sal Richards
Whenever you hear someone say "He's still got it, " they MUST be talking about the one and only, Sal Richards!
A comedian's comedian, an author, comedy writer, and an all around entertainer, Sal Richards is still going strong! He is
performing his unique style of comedy in hotels and comedy clubs around the US.
From Atlantic City to the brand new City Center, Las Vegas- Sal covers the country with his clean but clever style of comedy.
Whether he discusses Viagra or Niagara Falls, Sal is on top of his game. He started performing in 1958 with his singing
group The Royal Aires. He graduated to Social Director in the Catskills and coincidentally he just performed over New Years
weekend at the famous Catskills hotel, The Villa Roma!
When I asked Sal how he keeps himself fresh, he pointed to working on writing ventures in addition to doing stand up
comedy. To that extent, Sal Richards recently finished his book: "Behind The Laughter- Hidden Tears."
In his book he chronicles his professional travels and work with other infamous comedians, entertainers and friends such as
Fred Travelina, Soupy Sales, and Frank Sinatra plus many many others. His book will make you laugh, cry and reflect on
your own life. You will see that although comedians are relied upon to make people laugh, they also have their own private
lives, personal challenges and some "not so funny" moments.
So many comics today perform dirty and think that in order to be funny you have to work dirty. Absolutely not says Sal! He is
proof that a comedian can work completely clean and still be extremely funny and successful. The humor is not determined
by how dirty you work, instead it is the delivery and the relationship you build with your audiences, according to Sal. He has
people coming to see him specifically, BECAUSE of his clean, clever comedy. His comedy makes you think and his trusted
audiences from the last several decades, CANT be wrong!
He gave good advice to comedians starting out today. They should focus on working clean and developing their own style,
not going with what they think is popular but instead doing what works for them. Keep material fresh and keep current on the
world's events to help make your material and comedy even more relevant and engaging to younger and older audiences
alike!
