can recant stories of wildly customized dolls that were made to look everything
from old school English style punk to channeling the future of Avante Garde style.
If she only knew how beyond her years she truly is but on the other hand I
strongly feel that the not knowing is what fuels her ,propels her, compells her to
be the artist she has become. The artist she will become. I still do not think the
world has caught up to her. I am still amazed how futuristic, visionary she is while
always referencing the past. My daughter was creating art from such a young age.
Britany can do it in her sleep. She is multi-talented making art in so many
mediums. Her attention to detail is unbelievable but we have creative in our genes.

She is the daughter of famed denim wear designer & entrepreneur Mickey Levinson who owned &
designed alongside his brother Howard who went under the alias Hugo Plum. Their line of jeans &
casual culture wear St.Germain Jeans was worn by every 60's &70's rock legend from Robert Plant to
John Lennon who is famously pictured in Central Park wearing only a I Love NY tee-shirt & St.
Germain jeans. They had retail stores on the East & West Coasts notably their store Hugo Plum in the
Haight Ashbury District in San Francisco which was not only the hippest jeans shop but the place to
be in the inner circle as one would never know what celebrities could be sited shopping or even
impromptu get together where bands would stop in play .The late great James Brown is widely
associated with Mickey as the brothers named a store after his song "It's A Man's World”. James
appeared in TV. Commercials for the store & was infamous for wearing their custom designs.
Britany's mother Helaine Marcia was a young model who was with both Ford & Wilhelmina modeling
agencies. She was a one time muse to famed photographer Richard Avedon who shot her for her
Harpers Bazaar cover & claimed he had truly discovered the girl with the most beguiling eyes since
Elizabeth Taylor. Helaine graduated from college with a degree in interior design as she had little
interest in modeling .She owns Ethereal Home along with her business partner & daughter Britany Ali
& has been in business for forty years. Helaine is an award winning interior design powerhouse & a
living legend whose designs of many public spaces i.e. hotels all over South Beach have paved the way
for younger designers like Marcel Wanders, Kelly Waster, & her own daughter Britany Ali to make
unique spaces with a twist of humor, vintage flair, a nod always to Modern & Art Deco culture which
is definitively South Beach.
Britany Ali 's designs have graced fashion magazines for the past 18 years .She has been featured in
such periodicals as Elle, Elle Girl, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, In Style, People, Teen People, Apparel News
Los Angeles & New York, Gotham Magazine, Ocean Drive,& GQ just to name a few. Britany also
collaborated with the tattooists of Miami Ink & made several appearances on their hit TLC series. That
collaboration led to her debuting her arresting mixed media photo art series at Art Basel 2006 with

Nicky Butler. Britany was the creator of Fawn Jeans with former Wallflowers drummer Peter
Yanowitz. Has had a line of shoes & bags under the the psuedo-name Swoon.
Britany came upon the spotlight though when in the late 90's her handmade butterfly hair accessories
which were all one of a kind & hand painted as well as handmade. Every magazine, stylist, & celebrity
clamored for them. There were wait lists at stores like Lisa Kline in Los Angeles, Driveline, & Fred
Segal to name a few. Notoriously, Britany was personally summoned to Bjork's hotel room in L.A.'s
Chateau Marmont where she created dozens of her unique butterflies for her upcoming tour. Britany
was also commissioned to design her costumes & how befitting.
