When I mentioned to friends and colleagues I was staying at Gurney’s Inn for the weekend, I heard the following responses: “Wow! That is a very nice place” or “Is it quiet there in the winter?” and “I think the Inn was bought in the 1950’s by the same man who owned the famous Monte’s restaurant in Brooklyn.”
Well…..they were all correct! Gurney’s Inn is a beautiful place to stay, all year round! Of course it is more heavily populated in the summer, considering its prime beachfront location. However, Gurney’s is also a full- service Spa and Conference center. It is a perfect setting to have your meeting or your wedding.
It is a multi-purpose resort and boasts a beautiful dining room overlooking the ocean. The selection of gourmet style meals are appropriate for even the most professional palate.
In June of 1955, Nick Monte was having lunch at Gurney’s (named after Maude Gurney-the original owner). That lunch led to negotiations and Mrs. Gurney sold her Inn to Mr. Monte in 1956. Although much of is original appeal remains, Gurney’s Inn has grown into the modern getaway that is today.
Gurney’s offers both single rooms and cottage style accommodations. All rooms are fully equipped with coffee/tea makers and soap scented like the sea. Many rooms have ocean views and a deck/patio for further relaxation.
Speaking of relaxation, the Sea Water Spa offers luxurious pampering services ranging from neck and back massages to specialty treatments such as an all natural Maple Sugar Body Scrub or the Organic Rose Body Treatment. The entire Gurney’s staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable!
An Olympic size pool and fitness center surrounds the spa. You can enjoy afternoon tea and chocolates in the patisserie, and take your turn on the dance floor at night. On Valnetine’s Day, Gurneys hosts their famous annual “Longest Kiss Contest”. Romance is truly in the air…in the sea air.
Gurney’s Inn offers endless outdoor activities such as Tug-of-War on the beach, Team Volleyball, Spa Cuisine Cooking demonstrations, Nature Hikes, and trail/beach Horseback riding.
The historic town of Montauk is replete with shops and fishing/ boat tours as well as the magnificent Montauk Point Lighthouse.
Located at 290 Old Montauk Highway, at the other end of Brooklyn, is Gurney’s Inn. A wonderful retreat, a clear reminder that there really is “heaven on earth.”
