Devon Rodriguez, South Bronx native (b. 1996) continues his investigation of the underground world. Roaming through the subways with
his camera, he observes the chaos of human behavior and frames the small moments in life as inspirational events. With his works he
expresses a deep love for the modern human and contemporary city life. Rodriguez paints people how they are, translating their true
character. He observes his surroundings and paints what most impresses him. He recklessly points and shoots his camera as if his subject
weren’t strangers. He maintains a passion for realism and believes that realism communicates ideas honestly and clearly. In that way he
freezes time and those beautiful, but often overlooked scenes are forever captured in a moment. Finally ready to be observed. He is inspired
by the works of John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, and William Bouguereau.
Devon has shown at various institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Students League of NY, and the National Arts
Club. His works are included in private collections such as the Fashion Institute of Technology and the High School of Art & Design. He's
also given various lectures on his works and conducted drawing demos with large crowds. Devon's award winning paintings have been
covered by major art publications such as the Artist's Magazine, and the Art Student's Leagues' Lines of the League.
Devon studied oil painting intensively under James Harrington and drawing with Janice Edelman-Lee throughout high school. He also
studied at the Art Students League of NY, drawing & painting under Dan Thompson & Jon DeMartin. Devon has been strengthened by
continued independent and occasional formal studies in pictorial expression and oil painting.
