Dusk In The City
Jessica Krause studied art at Smith College and New York University.  She worked as a scenic designer for
theater and film while also continuing to develop as a painter.  During six years spent living on Manhattan’s
historic Gramercy Park, she adopted the square and surrounding sidewalks as her own personal studio,
capturing this vibrant world-within-a-world in hundreds of paintings and drawings that became the basis for her
nationally sold line of greeting cards.

Between 2001 – 2004, she had three solo exhibitions at the Gallery at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City.
Jessie is a lifetime member of The Art Students League, where she studied with Peter Homitzky and Frank O’
Cain.  Her work is in the collections of The National Arts Club, The Players Club, New York Life Insurance and
various celebrities, including Brian Wilson, Carol King, Carol Higgins Clark, Elizabeth Gilbert and Marcia Gay
Harden.

After two decades in New York, Jessie traded the bustle of Manhattan for bucolic Frenchtown, NJ.  Her
paintings, though rooted in observation, depict an inherent magic in everything she sees.  With her husband,
Robb Arent, she owns and operates Netherfield Gallery.

I paint and draw the people, places and things I am experiencing.  I ascribe to no particular artistic philosophy,
though I am greatly influenced by the impressionists, post-impressionists, and fauvists.  Depending on the day,
my paintings can be colorful or monochromatic, textured or smooth, large or small, peaceful or energetic, or
sometimes, a combination of all.  I continue to explore the process of painting, searching for the muse, which can
appear anywhere, anytime.
