"Make Today Count"
By: Nina Mistier
Life really does go by quickly and with this knowledge why would you waste a precious moment allowing
unhappiness to pervade your existence? What if you suddenly had shortness of breath and went to the doctor
only to discover you were in stage 4 lung cancer. Your prognosis was three months and there is nothing the
medical industry can do to help you. You would be frightened to your core and then you would focus on and
make peace with all the important matters in your life and the people that matter. Nobody knows how much time
they have remaining in this lifetime; it may be 40 more years or 40 more days.
Every moment is a gift, especially if you feel good. Don’t let little annoyances ruin your day. When something
unpleasant happens, acknowledge it, express it and then choose to change your thoughts and move on. Don’t
allow it to fester and blossom into more unpleasant thoughts which will ruin your whole day. A stressful event or
thought lasts for about a minute or two and during that time you can choose to add another bad thought to keep
the negative feeling or make a conscious shift to a happy thought and let it go. Each bad thought brings another
bad thought and they continue to snowball until you choose to put a stop to it. If you are a stress prone person
who reacts quickly it is probably because of your training throughout your life. It is absolutely not your fault if you
are negative, but you can choose to change your thoughts to positively affect the rest of your life beginning
today.
All that matters is right now! If you are always focusing on the past, you are surely not living in the present. Don’
t be fooled by the fact that you are physically here; where are you mentally and emotionally? Make conscious
choices about your time and state of mind; choose to be happy by intentionally monitoring your thoughts and
feelings. It is work, but very concrete work; if you feel good, keep it up, if you feel bad, check your thoughts and
shift to a pleasant thought. Have an arsenal ready; think about the things that make you smile instantly; a child
you love, a pet, a friend, your mate and be ready to shift at a moment’s notice. Thoughts create feelings;
thoughts are things and they drastically affect your life so be a police for your thoughts.
